Welcome
This evenings concert is hosted by Tabla Alba, a
Scottish charity dedicated to the
teaching and sharing of Indian Classical Music.
Ramprapanna
Bhattacharya comes from an
illustrious musical background in Kolkata. Trained by his father Sri Ram Udar
Bhattacharya, himself a noted Sitarist, from the age of six he benefited
greatly from a musical atmosphere within the family. Ramprapanna's style and
musicality led him to the great Guru Pt. Kashinath Mukherjee from whom he
learnt since 1997.
Presently
Ramprapanna is a learning from Pt. Arvind Parikh who had a 60 year association
with the great Sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan of the Imdadkani-Etawah Gharana.
Ramprapanna is one
of the younger generation of Sitar players who is establishing himself as a
promising dedicated artiste, his performances have received much praise in
India.

Vijay Kangutkar started his training as a vocal student
accompanied by his father, he started Tabla and soon found himself with the
great teacher Pt Taranath Rao with who he had a lifelong association.
Vijay has performed
and taught for several decades and has established Tabla as a recognised
instrument with the Scottish SQA.
Vijay continues to
learn with his Guru's last contemporary Pt Acharya on yearly visits to India.
Vijay performs each
year in India and organises a Guru Poornimah memorial concert in Pune every
July. The first Scottish students Bryan Jones & Dave Beards performed in
July 2011.
Tabla Alba was set
up to support students training in Tabla in Scotland giving opportunities to
listen to high quality musicianship and opportunities to perform.
