Instructions and Guidelines for Online and Offline (Face to Face) Music Lessons


ONLINE SESSIONS

Things to Be Ready With:

  1. Sitar – Properly tuned and in good condition before the session starts.
  2. Mizrab (Plectrum) – Well-fitted for comfortable playing.
  3. Stable Internet Connection – A reliable connection ensures smooth communication.
  4. Good Quality Headphones or Speakers – Helps in clear listening and avoiding background noise and echo.
  5. Properly Positioned Camera – The camera should be set to landscape mode (not portrait mode) and clearly show both hands and the sitar for better guidance. Camera device should not be placed on floor and should be in the level of attendee's face. 
  6. Notebook & Pen/Pencil – For writing down key points, compositions, and corrections.
  7. Electronic Tuner or Tanpura App – For accurate tuning and pitch reference. (Tanpura Droid for Andriod and iTablaPro for Apple Device)
  8. Tabla App – Essential for practicing rhythm and tala cycles. (Rhythm Premium for Andriod and iTablaPro for Apple Device)
  9. Bluetooth speaker: For loud and clear Tabla and Tanpura sound.
  10. Comfortable Seating & Posture Setup – Sit in a stable, comfortable position with proper support.
  11. Soft Cloth & Extra Strings – For instrument maintenance and handling unexpected string breaks.
  12. Tuner App - Carl Tune

Things to Follow:

  1. Join the Session on Time – Being punctual allows for a full learning experience.
  2. Tune the Sitar Before the Class Starts – Saves time and keeps the session focused on learning.
  3. Check Audio & Video Setup Beforehand – Ensures smooth communication and feedback.
  4. Minimize Background Noise – Choose a quiet space to avoid disturbances during the session.
  5. Keep Mobile Devices on Silent Mode – To maintain concentration and avoid distractions.
  6. Store the Sitar Properly After the Session – Keep it in a safe place to prevent damage.
  7. Advance fee payment: Send the fees before attending the session.


OFFLINE (Face to Face) SESSIONS

Things to Bring:

  1. Sitar – Ensure it's properly tuned and in good condition. (in case you have difficulty to bring on a particular day, please inform in advance)
  2. Mizrab (Plectrum) – A properly fitted mizrab for plucking the strings.
  3. Notebook & Pen/Pencil – For taking notes on lessons, compositions, and corrections.
  4. Electronic Tuner or Tanpura App – Helps in tuning and maintaining pitch accuracy.
  5. Metronome or Tabla App – To practice rhythm and tala cycles.
  6. Extra Strings & String Cutter – In case of a string breakage.
  7. Soft Cloth – To clean and maintain the sitar after use.

Things to Follow:

  1. Arrive on Time – Be punctual to maximize learning time. Try to arrive 10 min earlier than the scheduled time.
  2. Tune Your Sitar Before Class – Saves time and ensures a smooth start.
  3. Store the Sitar Properly After the Session and carefully take it back home – Keep it in a safe place to prevent damage and handle with utmost care to prevent damage.
  4. Advance fee payment: Send the fees before attending the session.


Overall Guidelines:

1. Copyright and Privacy Agreement: The content shared during the lessons in form of video / audio / written or any other form, should not be shared with any one else. This is strictly prohibited. The copyright of all such content solely belongs to Ramprapanna Bhattacharya.


2. Cancelling a scheduled session from either end should be done with prior intimation of at least two days in advance. (exception: true emergency / sudden and unforeseen health issues)

3. The scheduled sessions can not be cancelled with lame excuses (example: inadequate practice etc.)

4. The agreed scheduled frequency of sessions (weekly / bi-monthly / monthly) should be adhered. 

5. The session fee needs to be transferred in case of last min cancellation of session by the attendee (except for the genuine cases of health related emergencies) 

6. For any reason, if one wants to discontinue learning, the clear and proper communication should be sent for that, instead of sudden and unexpected disappearance.
